Process of tube calibration
The calibration of tubes and profiles is not an operation itself. It is an operation including within the tube manufacturing process. In order to ensure the dimensional quality of the product.
Nowadays, at the most industries, tubes calibration is carried out by machines that control thickness, eccentricity, diameter and ovality. This calibration machines are placed just after extruder machine. It use ultrasounds to make continued and direct measurements.
For this purpose is common use presses for pipes calibration especially for large diameters. The presses for calibration of pipes can have an automatic advancement shuttle system during the pipe calibration processing.

The calibration tube is made from extrusion or welded tubes. In the case of welded pipes which are cold formed and made by sheet metal where the weld dead is removed inside, is applied one or more of the following operations
- Heat treatment (usually normalized but other treatments can be carried out).
- SurfaceChemical Treatment. (Phosphate covering, zinc plating, chromium coating, etc.).
- Cold drawing.
- Non-destructive and dimensional control.
