Rubber is an elastomeric polymer that could be obtained from latex emulsions from various plants, called natural rubber or synthesized from petroleum byproducts, called sintered rubber.
Rubber parts and rubber-metal parts are present in multitude of sector such as automotive, construction, HVAC, telecom, household appliances, machinery, railway, electronic, aerospace...
For this type of material the principal production processes are four:
- Compression molding
Pre-heated rubber is compressed into a mold using a press. The material adopts the shape of the mold and forms the final piece. It is ideal for low to medium volumes and it is useful for forming parts where tightest tolerances and flawless finishes are not required such as bulky pieces, gaskets, seals, O-rings...
- Transfer molding
Rubber is preheated and loaded into a chamber called "pot". The material is squeezed from the pot into the mould cavity through one or more orifices called "gates" or "sprues". The mould, equipped with a heating system, provides curing (cross-linking) of the rubber. Transfer molding is widely used to enclose or encapsulate items such as integrated circuits, plugs, connectors and so on.
- Injection molding
The best choice for high-volume production runs of small size products that require tight tolerances and little to no finishing. Rubber injection molding involves feeding material into a press, which is then warmed and injected into a mold. A lot of products are made by this process as seals, sealing membranes, electric connectors, antivibration mounts and others.
Rubber is forced through a die of the required cross section under pressure, making a continuous profile. The profiles are highly customizable and can be made from almost any type of rubber. There are two processes for rubber extrusion; continuous in-line cure and off-line cure.
Based on its composition and properties, we can offer several types of rubber such as:
- Nitrile rubber (NBR)
- Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR)
- Polyacrylate rubber (ACM)
- Ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM)
- Polychloroprene or neoprene rubber (CR)
- Rubber fluorocarbon (FKM or Viton)
- Silicone rubber (MVQ)
